National Umpire Seminar March 26-27, 2022
The National Umpire seminar will be held again!
The emphasis will be on both match race and umpired fleet race.
Time: 26-27 March. Saturday between 10-17 and on Sunday between 9-16 (approx. times).
Place: NJK Björkholmen
Register by Sunday 13th March.
The course will be organised, if minimum 8 people participate.
Requirements: Participants should have an understanding of the game of sailing and know part 2 of the Racing Rules of Sailing (when boats meet), appendix C (match racing) and appendix UF for umpired fleet racing (https://www.sailing.org/90476.php).
Language: default language is English (language on the umpire boat is always English), but clarifications can be made in both Finnish and Swedish.

Price: 80e, includes teaching, materials, test and lunch/coffee/etc.
The written exam will not be part of the course as such, but can be done after the course, either later on Sunday, or when agreed with Mats, or Juuso. The test needs to be passed in order to arrange for an on-the-water-assessment. Once you pass these two you can apply for the national umpire status.There will be a continuation for the seminar during the early summer. NJK will organise in the Helsinki region both a weekend match race event, and also an umpired fleet event. The participants of the seminar will be invited to participate these in the umpire team. On the Friday afternoon there will be a dedicated clinic on the discipline (match or umpired fleet umpiring). Then during the weekend the participants will umpire on the water, gaining experience on the on-the-water.
To become a national umpire, you will need to participate in the seminar, pass the exam, pass an on the water assessment and act as an umpire in at least four regattas. (https://spv.fi/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Purjehduksen-toimitsijajärjestelmä_päivitetty-20151.pdf)

You can get a 50 euro subsidy if
– you are NJK Sailing Center member,
– pass the written exam after the course,
– pass the on the water assessment later in the year
– commit to umpiring in at least two events during this coming season and applying the NU status after you have enough events on your cv.
